Students will be finishing work with addition and subtraction strategies. Next week, we will be thinking about geometrical shapes.


Writing


We have been working on realistic fiction writing using the first-person point of view.


Reading


We have been really trying to be reading and recording our book titles on our book bag calendars.  Be sure to initial your child’s calendar when they are reading.

Writing


The class is thinking about types of fiction.  We are really digging into attributes if realistic fiction.

We also just finished some writing that will appear very shortly in the Maple lake Messenger, which highlights interesting facts of past presidents. 



Reading


Books should be coming home on a regular basis.  Feel free to have your child read a favorite book at home or even a library book. Please initial your child’s book bag calendar and record minutes for I Love To Read Month!

Students will be finishing work on double digit subtraction.   Next week, we will work on adding money values and estimating sums.


Reading


Your child should be bringing home a book about every night.  Please encourage your child to keep reading! 

I Love to Read Month is starting at MLE.   We are really thinking about reading!  Our theme is: Experiment with Reading!


·         A "I Love to Read Month" calendar was sent home in the Wednesday Envelope.  This can be used to record your child’s minutes that they read each day starting February 16th. These calendars could be kept in the book bag.
·         Week of Feb. 16th – Unplugged week-encourage your child to unplug that electronic device and read!
·         Feb. 20th Book Swap- bring in a used book to trade for another book. 
·         Feb. 20th PJ Day
·         Feb. 27th Dress up as a Mad Scientist and/or with wacky hair
·         There will NOT be a Reading Fun Night this year, however there will be a “Be Creative-Be an Engineer” Family Event March 17th, from 6:15-7:45.
